Groups Sue State Over Plastic Water Pipes

OAKLAND, Calif. (CN) - Just months after finding that crosslinked polyethylene plastic pipes leached dangerous chemicals into drinking water, the State of California decided that maybe they don't after all and approved them, environmentalists and the California State Pipe Trades Council say in Alameda County Court.

Plaintiffs seek write of mandate under the California Environmental Quality Act.

Here are the parties to the case: Center for Environmental Health, Consumer Federation California, Planning and Conservation League, California State Pipe Trades Council, and California Professional Firefighters v. California Building Standards Commission, California Department of Housing and Community Development, California Division of the State Architect, California Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development, California Department of Public Health, California Department of Food and Agriculture, and Real Party in Interest Plastic Pipe and Fittings Association.

Plaintiffs are represented by Ted Reed with Adams Broadwell & Joseph of Sacramento.
