Groups Sue Canada To Protect Sage Grouse

VANCOUVER, B.C. (CN) - The Alberta Wilderness Association and other environmental groups claim Canada's Minister of Environment illegally approved a plan to save the Greater Sage Grouse without identifying the bird's critical habitat. The groups claim in Federal Court that the action violates Canada's Species At Risk Act. The bird now lives on 6,000 square kilometers of its former 100,000-square kilometer range, much of it fragmented and degraded.
