KANSAS CITY, Mo. (CN) - A Marriott Hotel security guard shot a groom to death outside the hotel just after his wedding reception, his bride claims in court.
Stephanie Bruno sued the Kansas City Downtown Hotel Group, Marriott International, and security guard Donald Hubbard, in Jackson County Court.
Stephanie claims that on the way to the hotel after the wedding reception, at about 2 a.m. on Dec. 1, 2013, she and her husband Anthony "got into an alteration with the cab driver."
"The altercation resolved and decedent Anthony Bruno walked down the street and away from the cab driver in an attempt to clear his head," his widow says in the lawsuit.
Hubbard, a Marriott security guard, did not see the altercation with the cab driver, Stephanie says. But the hotel told him to "pursue" Anthony Bruno. He did so. Hubbard forced Anthony to lie down, kicked him repeatedly in the ribs, kneed him in the back of the head, then shot him twice in the body, the widow says. Anthony died where he lay.
Stephanie Bruno claims that Hubbard had committed a previous "unprovoked assault" while on duty, on June 9, 2013.
She seeks punitive damages for wrongful death, negligence and loss of consortium.
