Grocers Accused of Targeting Poor Latinos

MINNEAPOLIS (CN) - Nash Finch Co., which owns the Avanza Supermarket, Food Bonanza and Wholesale Food Outlet grocery stores, targeted poor and minority neighborhoods in a deceptive ad campaign, a class action claims in Federal Court. Plaintiffs say the ads claimed "Shelf Plus Pricing" offered bargains at stated prices, but added "Plus 10% at the Register" at the bottom, sometimes, but not always, in Spanish.

Plaintiffs' lead counsel is James Mewborn with Arthur, Chapman & Kettering.
