Greenhouse Gases

The South Coast Air Quality Management District and two other California air districts sued U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao in federal court, claiming she issued a greenhouse gas emissions rule in violation of the Clean Air Act, which requires analysis of the impact of preempting state and local air pollution laws.

WASHINGTON — The South Coast Air Quality Management District and two other California air districts brought a federal complaint over a greenhouse gas emissions rule issued by U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, noting that the Clean Air Act requires analysis of the impact of pre-empting state and local air pollution laws.
