Graphic attack warrants long sentence

BATON ROUGE, La. — An appeals court in Louisiana affirmed the 20-year sentence of a man who battered his estranged girlfriend and kidnapped her seven-month-old daughter. He “brutally attacked her for hours slapping, pushing, choking, dragging, punching, repeatedly striking her with two leather belts, and burning her with a cigarette.” The sentences imposed were not grossly disproportionate to the severity of the offenses, so they are not unconstitutionally excessive.
