Grandmother of the Year

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (CN) - Police say a woman poisoned her granddaughter in hopes that the illness would make her divorcing parents get back together. Terri Chilton, 44, is charged with one-count of first degree child endangerment.

Police say Chilton tried to make the 1-year-old girl's parents believe the girl had eaten rat poison. The girl was taken to several hospitals and was determined to be in good health.

Then, police say, Chilton gave the girl a blood thinner. Two days later, the girl was bleeding uncontrollably from minor scratches to her mouth and nose; she survived, but long-term organ damage is unknown, according to The Associated Press and local news reports.
