JEFFERSON CITY - Scott Eckersley, former lawyer for Gov. Matt Blunt, faces possible discipline after the governor's office filed a complaint accusing him of "breach of confidentiality:" improperly taping meetings with Blunt's staff without their knowledge and violating attorney-client confidentiality by talking to reporters and others outside of the governor's office.
The complaint, filed with the Missouri Supreme Court's Office of Disciplinary Counsel, is the latest round in a battle between Eckersley and the governor's office. Eckersley said he was fired after he questioned Blunt's staff about their handling of office emails and public records requests.
Blunt's office claims Eckersley was fired for poor performance, conducting personal work on state time and for viewing a sex Web site at work. The state Supreme Court's Office of Disciplinary Counsel handles complaints against lawyers and has the power to revoke an attorney's license.
