Gov. Timothy Kaine Halts All Executions In Virginia

RICHMOND, Va. (CN) - Virginia Gov. Timothy Kaine issued a stay of all state executions pending the Supreme Court's decision in Baze v. Rees, which challenges the constitutionality of lethal injection as a method of capital punishment.

The announcement grants a reprieve to death-row inmate Edward Nathaniel Bell, who was scheduled for execution on April 8 for murdering a police officer.
