Google Must Pay|$17 Million Settlement

OMAHA (CN) - Google will pay $17 million to 36 states and the District of Columbia to settle complaints that it hacked Apple's Safari browser to track online activity.

Google changed coding to hack past privacy settings on Safari from June 2011 until February 2012, state attorneys general said. Google claimed it stopped doing it then.

Nebraska will get $247,850 from the payout, the state said in its settled lawsuit in Douglas County Court.
