SEATTLE (CN) - The family of a woman killed by a Chevy Impala has been presented with a major problem by the insolvency of General Motors, choosing to omit the carmaker as a defendant in its wrongful death case because of the carmaker's inability to pay its debts.
Arlene Varnau was crushed when a leased Chevy Impala backed over her, allegedly due to a faulty gear indicator. The complaint in King County Court claims that "GM is insolvent and it is highly probable that the plaintiff would be unable to enforce a judgment against GM."
The family is left with the defendanty Enterprise Rent-a-Car which will no doubt blame GM.
Varnau's estate is represented by The Fleck Law Firm.
