Global Fertility Rate Declines to Replacement in Half of the World

The average global fertility rate is in decline, with nearly half the world's countries scoring fertility rates at or below replacement level reported the Census Bureau on Monday. The global fertility rate is now at around 1.25%.

This still reflects a growing global population, which hit 6.7 billion this year. The global number of births is expected to peak at 137 million in 2013, followed by a delayed population decline.
