TALLAHASSEE (CN) - YouTube "Beauty Gurus" Lisa and Laura Fowler claim a website designer hijacked their Glitzy-Glam site and put it up for sale, costing them "tens of thousands of online orders for products."
The Fowlers, through their company Glitzy-Glam, sued web designers Danielle and William Foresman and their companies Matrosity and Cyborg Media in Federal Court.
The Fowlers, who go by Elle and Blair on their video blogs, say they hired William Foresman to revamp their Glitzy-Glam.com site, which started out selling key chains. After trying to contact Foresman to get access codes to the site, the Fowlers say he claimed ownership of the site and offered to release the domain codes to them for $5,200.
The Fowlers say they received an invoice for $5,400, which contained a $5,000 charge for "intellectual property rights transfer to Glitzy-Glam."
The Fowlers say they paid Foresman $400 for other charges, but disputed the $5,000 charge, resulting in Foresman terminating the business relationship and putting their domain up for sale.
"Well prior to the 'shut down' the web-site at domain name www.glitzy-glam.com had become immensely popular through Glitzy-Glam LLC's investment of time and resources," the Fowlers say in their 18-page complaint. "Additionally, Glitzy-Glam LLC and LOLI [Glitzy-Glam's predecessor] had secured tens of thousands of on-line orders for products and developed extensive customer lists, including over 45,000 customer names and information."
The Fowlers seek punitive damages for cyberpiracy and conversion, and want an injunction transferring the domain back to them.
