Giancana’s Daughter|Sues The Mafia Collection

LAS VEGAS (CN) - The daughter of Mafia boss Sam Giancana sued The Mafia Collection, claiming the exhibit that opened Tuesday in the Tropicana Hotel owes her $22,300 for her father's personal effects, and another $286,500 on a 5-year consulting contract - which it canceled.

Antoinette Giancana McDonnell sued Jay Bloom, manager of co-defendants The Mafia Collection and Murder Inc., in Clark County Court.

Bloom's businesses are separate from the planned Las Vegas Museum of Organized Crime and Law, which is scheduled to open late this year.

McDonnell seeks damages for fraud, breach of contract, conversion and other charges. She claims the defendants stiffed her for the $22,300 they promised for her father's furniture and other items, and have not paid her for 3 months on their promised $330,000 5-year consulting contract, for which they owe her $286,538.

McDonnell, who was released of her duties last week, says she "would never have entertained an offer to sell her father's belongings for merely $22,300" without the promise that Bloom would be interested in buying other memorabilia, such as autographed pictures, books and CDs.

Now, McDonnell says, she's saddled with a $230,000 Las Vegas home she can't afford, after she moved from Chicago to work with the museum.

Her father was the boss of the Chicago Outfit from 1957 to 1966. On June 19, 1975, he was shot in the back of the head while frying sausage and peppers in his kitchen in Oak Park, Ill. Then he was turned over and shot six more times in the face. It was just days before he was scheduled to appear before a U.S. Senate committee investigating supposed links between the CIA and plots to assassinate President John F. Kennedy.

Conspiracy theorists have long speculated that Giancana and other gang bosses were involved in the assassination of Kennedy, who along with his brother, Attorney General Robert Kennedy, was cracking down on organized crime.

McDonnell's son, Carl Manno, has stepped in as a consultant for the mob-themed attraction, which opened Tuesday inside the Tropicana Hotel and Casino.

McDonnell seeks at least $80,000 in damages. She is represented by Ihab Omar.
