WASHINGTON (CN) - The U.S. Secretary of Transportation and the Federal Aviation Administration have refused to enact air safety regulations to remedy problems that the National Transportation Safety Board identified more than a decade ago, and that have caused more than 460 deaths, the director of the National Air Disaster Alliance Foundation claims in Federal Court.
The complaint cites the NTSB's 1990 "Most Wanted List," which called for immediate steps to prevent runway crashes. It cites six runway crashes since then that have claimed 310 lives.
Placed on the Most Wanted List in 1997 were steps to protect from "flight in icing conditions." The complaint cites four crashes, resulting in 154 deaths, including the recent crash near Buffalo.
Plaintiff Gail Dunham, executive director of the Foundation, is represented by Mary Schiavo of Mr. Pleasant, S.C.
