Georgia official off the hook for not activating tornado warning

ATLANTA — An appeals court in Georgia upheld a ruling in favor of a sheriff’s lieutenant in a negligence lawsuit brought by a mother who accused the official of failing to activate a tornado warning system. A tornado caused a tree to fall on the mother’s rental home, injuring her and killing the father and their daughter. The lieutenant is entitled to official immunity and does not owe the mother an actionable duty under the public duty doctrine.
