MANHATTAN (CN) - An "up-and-coming" soldier for the Genovese mafia will serve more than three years in federal prison for running an illegal, online gambling business.
Felice Masullo, 38, had pleaded guilty in November to participating in a racketeering enterprise and to charges of conspiracy to distribute cocaine and conspiracy to operate an illegal online gambling business.
His brothers, Angelo Masullo, 35, and Anthony Masullo, 40, pleaded guilty to the extortion conspiracy charge. They were sentenced to serve seven months and one year, respectively.
Prosecutors say six of the 12 other individuals charged in a February 2009 indictment - including the Genovese family's acting boss, Daniel Leo, also have pleaded guilty.
Felice Masullo acted as a driver and messenger for Anthony Palumbo, who was also charged in the case and is alleged to be a crew leader, according to the filing.
Prosecutors say Felice Masullo operated a loan-sharking and gambling business and a drug ring out of a restaurant he co-owned with his brothers.
The brothers "collected cash payments from loan-sharking victims and gamblers," officials said.
