ST. CHARLES, Mo. (CN) - A woman who forged student loan documents in her daughters' names to support a gambling habit was sentenced to five years in prison. Cynthia M. Tiemann, 50, could have received up to seven years and a $5,000 fine for each of seven felony counts of forgery.
Tiemann, of St. Peters, pleaded guilty in September to seven felony counts of forgery. She admitted taking out $140,000 in student loans in the names of her daughters and forging her own mother's name as a co-signor.
Circuit Judge Lucy Rauch sentenced her to five years on each count, to run concurrently. Tiemann can still be sued in civil court by the banks that lost money in the scam.
