Gambling Ex-Mayor Loses Appeal In Ill. High Court

CHICAGO (CN) - The Illinois Supreme Court upheld the conviction of Lyndell Howard, the former mayor of Pekin, Ill., who took out $1,400 in cash advances on a city credit card to play video poker at the Par-A-Dice Casino in Peoria. Justices rejected his argument that "overzealous prosecution" led to his conviction on three counts of official misconduct.
