Gallery Sold Bogus Inness, Customer Says

OKLAHOMA CITY (CN) - A man claims the Colonial Art Gallery of Oklahoma City defrauded him of $15,060 for bogus "Inness and Isabey paintings." He also sued the gallery's owner, Willard E. Johnson II.

Robert Luchsinger's lawsuit in Oklahoma County Court does not describe anything about the paintings except their price, and that their "real value" is "minimal" or "nothing."

George Inness was a U.S. landscape painter.

The lawsuit does not state whether the "Isabey painting" purported to be from Jean-Baptiste Isabey (1767-1855) or his son, Eugene Isabey (1803-1886.)

Luchsinger says the defendants "made false, misleading and fraudulent representations" to sell him the paintings, and "knew or should have known that the representations were false when they were made."
