WASHINGTON (CN) - Lightning can cause fuel tank explosions on certain McDonnell Douglas and Bombardier jets due to insufficient electrical bonding of parts in the fuel systems.
The Federal Aviation Administration requires operators of the McDonnell Douglas 717 200 and the Bombardier Regional Jets 100 and 440 to remedy the electrical bonding. The Bombardiers must be fixed within 5,000 flight hours after Feb. 26, and the MDs within the next five years.Click herefor details and other new regulations.
