FTC Lowers The Boom On Telemarketer

LAS VEGAS (CN) - Telemarketer Ed Dantuma dba Publishers Business Services bilks people into accepting "free" magazine subscriptions, then charges them $720 for it, the FTC claims in Federal Court.

Dantuma operates out of Altamonte Springs, Fla., the FTC says.

Dantuma and his creatures allegedly make interstate calls and ask their victims to "take part in a short survey," then offer them "a gift of some magazine to thank them for their time." Then they bill them, typically, $720 for multi-year subscriptions, which they claim is not cancelable, the FTC says.

It also sues Ed Dantuma Enterprises Inc., Publishers Direct Services, Persis Dantuma, and Brenda Dantuma Schang.
