SAN DIEGO (CN) - La Jolla Friends of the Seals demands that the federal government and the City of San Diego place a "pupping season rope" at Children's Pool Beach in La Jolla to protect the seals that breed there. The seals' friends say the City Council has failed to enforce its own resolutions requiring the rope.
Pupping season begins in December.
The Friends of the Seals sued the National Oceanic And Atmospheric Administration National Marine Fisheries Service, an agency of the U.S. Department of Commerce, Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez, Acting Director of the NMFS James Balsiger, Acting Regional Administrator of the NMFS Rodney McInnis, Director of Office of Protected Resources at NMFS James Lecky, and the City of San Diego, in Federal Court.
The seals and their friends are represented by Bryan Pease.
