Ford Partners Accused Of Lying About PCBs

NEWARK - Edgewood Properties claims it got stuck with tons of contaminated concrete crushed at the former Ford truck plant in Linden, N.J., after being duped into believing the recycled rebar was reusable.

It demands that J&L Management Corp., Golder Associates and Arcadis US - all partners of Ford Motor Co. - clean up the material they allegedly lied about.

Edgewood says it contracted with J&L, Golder and Arcadis, all partners of Ford Motor Co., to remove tons of crushed concrete excavated from the demolished buildings at the decommissioned Ford pickup truck facility. The plant is to be sold for profit to a residential developer.

Edgewood said it was told that the concrete was free from contamination with PCBs, that it passed all New Jersey environmental standards, and could be used as backfill in residential property developments.

But it says the concrete was found to have elevated levels of PCBs and did not meet the standards. Edgewood dumped tons of the concrete into five residential developments. It demands that the defendants pay to dig it up and dispose of it properly.
