WASHINGTON (CN) - Japan is no longer free from foot-and-mouth disease, so the U.S. Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has restricted the importation of pigs and pig products from Japan.
Foot-and-mouth disease is a highly contagious disease endemic to more than two-thirds of the world, and considered to be widespread in parts of Africa, Asia, Europe, and South America.
The disease is viral and affects cloven-hoofed ruminants, including cattle, deer, goats, sheep, swine and other animals.
