Five States Sue Lilly For Pushing Drug Zyprexa

(CN) - Four states accuse Eli Lilly of pushing Zyprexa for unapproved uses. The drug was approved by the FDA for bipolar disorder, but the states say Lilly's "aggressive marketing campaign called 'Viva Zyprexa!'" pushes the drug for use on kids at high dosage levels, to treat symptoms rather than diagnosed conditions, and to turn people with dementia into zombies.

Oklahoma Attorney General Drew Edmondson demands $10,000 fines for each violation, and an injunction restraining Lilly from deceptive trade, in Oklahoma County Court.

Indiana sued Lilly on similar charges in Marion County Court, Indianapolis.

Maryland sued in Baltimore City Court.

Illinois sued in Cook County Court.

Washington sued in King County Court, Seattle.
