WASHINGTON (CN) - The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has refused protection for 270 Southwestern species under the Endangered Species Act, in rejecting a petition for review by the environmental group WildEarth Guardians. Among the rejected life forms are the Dolan Falls salamander, Texas pipefish and yellow shore crab.
In the initial 90 days since the petition was filed, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has found that, "the petition does not present substantial scientific or commercial information indicating that listing these species may be warranted."
A request to consider listing 21 of the species on an emergency basis also was rejected.
But the agency did call for further information on the species, suggesting the matter was not closed.
