WASHINGTON (CN) - Troy A. Paredes will appear today for the first time with his four fellow commissioners at the Securities and Exchange Commission after he was sworn in last week during a ceremony at the SEC's headquarters in Washington, D.C.
Paredes was appointed by President George W. Bush on June 30, 2008. He previously taught securities regulation and corporate governance at the Washington University School of Law in St. Louis, Mo.
"Commissioner Paredes brings extensive knowledge of securities regulation and corporate governance that will be of enormous help to the commission's work to safeguard investors, maintain orderly markets, and encourage capital formation," SEC Chairman Christopher Cox said. "I look forward to working with him and welcome his expertise as we move forward with a busy agenda at the SEC to help the American investor."
Paredes said he was "deeply honored and humbled" by the opportunity to join the SEC.
Paredes studied economics at the University of California at Berkeley and graduated from Yale Law School in 1996.
