Fired for supporting the boss’s opposition

CHICAGO — A federal court in Illinois upheld a jury verdict finding the Lake County circuit court clerk, Erin Cartwright Weinstein, unlawfully fired three employees for support her political rival after she won the election. The former employees won their First Amendment challenge to their terminations and each was awarded hundreds of thousands, and in one case $1 million, in compensatory damages and each employee won $75,000 in punitive damages.
