CLAYTON, Mo. - A St. Louis County jury awarded $378,000 to a probationary flight attendant who was fired by Trans States Airlines after complaining of sexual harassment from a pilot. The jury gave Aimee Williams $53,000 in actual damages and $325,000 in punitive damages.
Williams, 31, said a pilot sexually harassed her on a flight and layover from St. Louis to Champaign, Ill., on Nov. 22, 2002.
She reported the harassment on Dec. 6, 2002 and was fired on Jan. 29, 2003.
Trans States said Williams was fired for a variety of reasons, including calling in sick but being seen in a bar, and making flights late by sipping coffee at Starbucks and shopping at an airport gift shop while flights were ready to take off.
