Final Approval to Sunoco Overtime Settlement

(CN) - A federal judge approved a $675,000 settlement for Sunoco employees demanding overtime wages for work at a Philadelphia refinery.

Eight Sunoco workers sued the Pittsburgh-based oil giant in 2010 for failure to pay overtime wages between 2007 and the time of the filing.

The employees said they were not compensated for their work before and after their scheduled shifts, including traveling between work sites, and the preparation and maintenance of work equipment.

The parties reached a settlement agreement in November 2011 for $675,000.

U.S. District Judge Eduardo Robreno approved the deal last week as fair, reasonable and adequate.

Each class member will receive an average payout of $878.33, with the maximum payout being more than $1,000.

The named plaintiffs were Matthew Ripley, Richard Sim, Joseph Grosse, Anne Minor, Michael Olsen, Gabriel Schwartz, Bradford Takacs and James Savage.

The class was represented by Debra Jensen, Michael McGurrin, and Eric Young of Galfand Berger LLP in Philadelphia.
