MILWAUKEE (CN) - A Filipina maid claims two married doctors enslaved her for 19 years, locking her in the house, forcing her to wash their tennis courts, serve them breakfast in bed every day, care for the house seven days a week, and denied her medical care - though both her employers are physicians.
Irma Martinez accuses Drs. Jefferson Calimlim and Elnora Calimlim of human trafficking, fraud, coercion, peonage, debt bondage and holding her in slavery.
A federal jury on May 26, 2006 convicted the Drs. Calimlim of conspiring to obtain forced labor and other charges. Martinez says. Their eldest son, Jefferson Calimlim Jr. was convicted of illegally harboring her, she says.
Martinez seeks punitive damages. Her lead counsel is Robert Friebert.
