FERC Approves New|Gas Rate Standards

WASHINGTON (CN) - The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has adopted standards for interstate natural gas pipeline business practices and electronic communications standards dealing with index-based capacity release of natural gas reserves.

The standards create a uniform method that will allow releasing and replacement shippers to use third-party rate indices to create rate formulas that create a more responsive value for available capacity.

The standard for the use of flexible receipt and delivery points is to enable shippers to redirect gas needed by gas generators or other shippers. In addition, the standards are expected to create more uniform reporting for gas quality and new information posting requirements for Web sites and browsers.
