Felon not at fault for gun’s lack of serial number

NEW ORLEANS — The Fifth Circuit reversed the sentence of a felon who was convicted of firearm possession, finding that even though one of the two unregistered guns did not have a serial number, his sentence was improperly enhanced because the rifle was manufactured without a serial number; he did not alter or obliterate it himself.
