Felon Just Can’t Give up the Explosives

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (CN) - A felon who left pipe bombs near an ex-girlfriend's home in Palm Springs pleaded guilty to another felony on Monday, federal prosecutors said.

Edward Allen Costa, 49, a resident of Desert Hot Springs before he took it on the lam, pleaded guilty in 2012 to being a felon in possession of a firearm, and walked away from a halfway house while serving a yearlong sentence, the U.S. Attorney's Office said in a statement.

He was arrested last November after three months on the lam. While he was a fugitive, he was accused of possessing six pipe bombs that he had left in a Palm Springs neighborhood in May 2012.

He pleaded guilty Monday to possession of an unregistered explosive device. He faces up to 10 years in federal prison at his July 14 sentencing.
