LOS ANGELES (CN) — Hip-hop star Drake had his “enforcer” sucker-punch a Grammy-winning producer, leaving him with a broken jaw, the rapper’s former friend Noel Fisher aka Detail claims in a lawsuit.
Fisher sued Aubrey Drake Graham, Graham’s record label OVO Sound, and Graham’s pal Nessell Beezer aka Chubbs, on Tuesday in Superior Court.
Fisher aka Detail won three Grammy awards in 2015 and his first co-producing and co-writing Grammy the same year for Best R&B song, “Drunken Love,” performed by Beyonce and Jay-Z.
Fisher also produced and wrote music fellow Grammy winner Drake. He says he and Drake worked so well together that the rapper said Fisher was like a member of his family, and gave him a gold OVO necklace as a symbol of their friendship.
But the friendship ended in 2014, Fisher says, when he declined Graham’s offer to be his exclusive producer.
“After plaintiff Detail declined defendants Drake’s offer to be his exclusive producer, defendant Drake … and Chubbs were so angry and furious that they took back the gold OVO necklace that Drake had given Detail,” according to a 33-page complaint. “After these incidents, Drake and Detail stopped working together producing music.”
But Fisher says Graham wasn’t finished: He was so incensed he hatched a plan with his childhood friend and “enforcer” Beezer, known for his quick temper and “violent tendencies.”
On June 26, 2014, Graham lured Fisher to his house under the pretense of mending fences, according to the complaint. Fisher brought along his producing crew and arrived at Graham’s house, where they stood in the back yard talking to Graham’s entourage.
Fisher says Chubbs, who showed up drunk, immediately ran over to him and punched him so hard that it broke his jaw, necessitating multiple surgeries to repair the damage.
“Suddenly and without any provocation or any warning, defendant Chubbs, who was in an obviously intoxicated condition in addition to his known history of being unable to control his impulsiveness, carelessness, thoughtfulness, incompetence, irrationality, intoxication or negligent, reckless and violent tendencies, arrived in the backyard of Drake’s … property and … ran in the direction of plaintiff Detail to carry out the subject plan involving causing Detail to suffer physical harm, suffering and intimidation,” the complaint states.
Fisher says he hit the ground, his face and mouth bleeding profusely, while Graham watched from a few feet away as Chubbs screamed: “I will beat all your asses, including your bitches. I don’t give a fuck. I will hit you again. Do you think Drake is soft? You think Drake’s a punk?”
Graham and Chubbs prevented anyone from calling an ambulance, Fisher says. His crew helped him leave and took him to an emergency room.
His attorneys Brian Panish and David Rudorfer, with Panish Shea & Boyle, were not available for comment after business hours Thursday.
Fisher seeks punitive damages for assault and battery, negligence, and negligent hiring, supervision and training.
