Feds Want Drug Maker Shut Down

BALTIMORE (CN) -Scientific Laboratories, of Columbia, Md., is making, distributing and selling adulterated prescription drugs, federal prosecutors say. They want it stopped.

The United States also sued company president Rajeshwari Patel and its CEO Amit Roy aka Kanak Patel. It claims that the company's eight liquid prescription drugs do not meet FDA standards. All are sold for cough, cold and allergy, under the names D-Tann, Dur-Tann, Dura tan and Nazarin.

Prosecutors say the drugs are not safe or effective, are misbranded, and that the company has a history of FDA violations.
