Feds to Consider Buying Additional ‘Green’ Wares

WASHINGTON (CN) - The U.S. Department of Agriculture plans to amend the Guidelines for Designating Biobased Products for Federal Procurement to add eight sections of items within which biobased contents are preferred.

The categories in which biobased products should get preference when federal departments buy or acquire products are: Aircraft and boat cleaners; automotive care products; engine crankcase oil; gasoline fuel additives; metal cleaners and corrosion removers; microbial cleaning products; paint removers; and water turbine bearing oils.

The USDA also proposes to add the following subcategories to previously designated product categories: Countertops to the composite panels category; and wheel bearing and chassis grease to the greases category.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture also has proposed minimum biobased contents for each of these items.
