Feds Say Condo Won’t Sell To Black Family

HAMMOND, IND. (CN) - The Autumn Ridge Condominium Association in Munster, and its three-man board of directors, refused to sell a condo to a family because they are black, federal prosecutors say.The United States also sued condo board president Richard Archie, vice president Ronald Patterson and treasurer James Reed.

Archie, Patterson and Reed are the only members of the board. The complaint claims that the purchase was on track, conducted through a realtor, until the defendants met the family and saw they are black. Prosecutors demand damages, a fine and an injunction.
