SAN FRANCISCO (CN) - Chevron dumped toxic chemicals into East Bay waters, the federal government and the California Department of Fish and Game say in Federal Court. Traces of mercury and lead were found in Castro Cove, a section of San Pablo Bay next to Chevron's Richmond petroleum refinery.
The Fish and Game Department said the lead appears to have come from "pellets deposited in a portion of the Castro Cove sediments from past skeet shooting activities at the refinery."
They seek an unspecified amount in damages for injuries to fish, birds, plants, wildlife and their habitats, and for the cost of assessing those injuries. Their attorney, Ann Hurley with the U.S. Department of Justice, was unavailable for comment.
