SALT LAKE CITY (CN) - A black bear carried off and killed a child from a campsite in American Fork Canyon because the U.S. Forest Service failed to warn the public that the bear had ripped open a tent and "bumped" the man sleeping in it the previous day, the child's parents claim in Federal Court. They say that despite determining, on the day of the first attack, that the bear should be destroyed, the Forest Service failed to close the campground or post a warning about the animal, which carried off the child from a tent pitched in the same place as the first tent it ripped apart.
