Federal Bankruptcy Judge|Appointed for Nevada

SAN FRANCISCO (CN) - August B. Landis has been appointed to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Nevada.

Landis, 50, is the acting U.S. trustee for Region 17, which includes Nevada and California's Eastern and Northern Districts. He will be sworn in on Nov. 27 and sit in Las Vegas.

Landis, a native of Springfield, Ill., has worked in the Department of Justice's U.S. Trustee Program since 2005. He worked in private practice for Whitfield & Eddy in Des Moines, Iowa, from 1990 to 2005.

Federal bankruptcy judges are appointed to 14-year terms, whose annual salaries today are $160,080.

Landis will replace Judge Linda B. Riegle, who is retiring.
