WASHINGTON (CN) - The FDA has approved two new uses of animal medications for cattle.
The antibiotic Florfenicol and pain-killer flunixin meglumine may be combined in a solution and injected into cattle. Ractopamine hydrochloride Type C medicated feeds may be fed to cattle waiting to be slaughtered, to add to carcass weight and leanness.
Intervet, Inc. applied to the Food and Drug Administration for approval of the injectable, and Elanco Animal Health, A Division of Eli Lilly & Co., applied for approval of the feed as a top dressing.
