FDA Announces Recalls at Stonewall Market, Fairway

SILVER SPRING, Md. (CN) – Just in time for Christmas shoppers, Stonewall Kitchen has annnouned a voluntary, limited-quantity recall of three varieties of its pancake and waffle mixes.

A Dec. 8 announcement from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration says the cinnamon apple, orange cranberry and toasted coconut pancake mixes are at issue.

No one has reported an injury or illness, but the FDA says the facility that supplies powdered buttermilk for these three mixes tested positive for traces of salmonella.

Stonewall announced the recall out of abundance of caution, “although no pathogenic bacteria have been found in the powdered products supplied to Stonewall Kitchen by the ingredient manufacturer, nor in any of the Stonewall Kitchen pancake & waffle mixes themselves.”

Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children; frail or elderly people; and others with weakened immune systems. Symptoms in healthy adults are often limited to fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.

Stonewall says consumers obtained a limited quantity of affected products through the 10 Stonewall Kitchen Company Stores, its wholesale division, and its catalog-internet division.

Details on the affected products appear at the end of the article. Founded in 1991, Stonewall Kitchen is headquartered in York, Maine, and is celebrating its 25th anniversary.

Also on Thursday, Fairway “Like No Other Market” announced a voluntary recall of Fairway-brand candy corn because it may contain undeclared egg.

Manhattan-based Fairway says it ceased distribution of the product and removed it from store shelves after someone reported an allergic reaction. New labels for the product have been corrected.

Fairway sold the affected candy corn at stores in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, and also through home-delivery programs provided by Fairway E-commerce, Google and Instacart.

The FDA says the product is packaged in clear, plastic cello bags of varying weights, each weighing less than one pound.

The product bears Item Code 228402 XXXXXX. All “sell-by” date codes are being recalled. “LIKE NO OTHER MARKET” of New York, NY is

Consumers can return their Fairway-brand candy corn to the place of purchase for a full refund.
