(CN) - The FBI on Tuesday released its files kept on Michael Jackson that focused on death threats against the pop star in 1992 and three different investigations into charges of child molestation.
The files document how the FBI helped California authorities investigate the 2004 molestation case for which Jackson was acquitted, along with paperwork involving a similar accusation in 1993 that never went to trial. A third case, in 2004, was closed when a witness wouldn't testify, according to the documents.
Another file includes death threats from an unnamed man against Jackson, President George H.W. Bush and John Gotti. The unidentified man wrote that he would "attempt to kill (Jackson) if he doesn't pay me my money," and that he would commit mass murder at a Jackson concert.
The man was tried and convicted in 1992 for the threats, the FBI said.
The files were released in response to a Freedom of Information Act request made in October by The Associated Press, The New York Times and the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Jackson died June 5 of a drug overdose. Coroners have ruled it a homicide.
