FBI Plans to Share|Copyright Warning Seal

WASHINGTON (CN) - The Federal Bureau of Investigation will provide a general authorization allowing all copyright holders to use an FBI Anti-Piracy Warning Seal, subject to specific conditions of use.

The seal was designed to graphically enhance the impact of a warning on copyrighted media about the potential consequences of intellectual property crime, and the FBI's role in investigating it, according to the FBI.

Due to an FBI pilot program, members of five entertainment and software industry associations have been able to request approval from the association to use the seal, and the association has administered the process and record-keeping, since December 2003.

The general authorization would replace the pilot program, and allow more people and entities to use the seal.

The image of the seal will be made available on the FBI's Web site, and it may be downloaded for use on eligible works as specified in the FBI's proposed regulation.
