Family Appeals Case Against Televangelist

MOUNT VERNON, Ill. (CN) - Family members of a woman and two children killed by a former bodyguard for Joyce Meyers want to revive their wrongful death suit against the televangelist.

Sheri Coleman's family appealed to the Illinois Appellate Court, claiming a Monroe County judge was wrong to dismiss their case.

Christopher Coleman killed his wife, Sheri, and their two sons - 11-year-old Garrett and 9-year-old Gavin - in 2009.

He is serving life without parole.

Christopher Coleman worked as Meyers' bodyguard. The Coleman family claims Meyers' ministry did not properly investigate threats against the Coleman family and failed to warn Sheri Coleman.

A Joyce Meyer Ministries attorney said the employer is not responsible for ensuring an employee's conduct.
