Fake police lights result in conviction

RICHMOND, Va. — The Virginia Court of Appeals upheld the conviction of a previously convicted felon for impersonating a police officer, abduction and assault and battery. He activated red-and-blue lights on his minivan, causing a motorist to pull over, and approached her car so he could apologize, explain that he “just wanted to see if it would work” and gave her a hug. The woman described herself as terrified that an unknown man had pretended to be a policeman before reaching in to her car for the hug; her boss at work called the police the next day after she, shaken up, discussed the incident with him.
