Fake Botox, Bribery Alleged in Beauty Salons

SEATTLE (CN) - Federal prosecutors say a salon owner injected customers with fake Botox and two others tried to bribe a federal inspector to ignore an unapproved laser skin treatment device. Two customers of the Natural Beauty Salon sought medical treatment after owner Xin "Faith" He injected their faces with counterfeit Restylane and Botox, according to one indictment.

He, who is not licensed to use injectable treatments, had been issued a cease and desist order by the Washington State Department of Health in 2006, prosecutors said. He's customers said they had to seek treatment from dermatologists and plastic surgeons after receiving the injections.

In the second, unrelated case, operators of Crystal Nails beauty salon allegedly offered $800 to a Food and Drug Administration consumer safety officer to let them keep an imported laser that emitted unknown radiation. Defendants Toan Le and Hang Ho face up to 15 years in prison and $250,000 fines if convicted. He faces up to 3 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

The arrests were part of a crackdown on unlicensed cosmetic surgery practices.
