FAA Requires New Pump Shutoff in Boeing Jets

WASHINGTON (CN) - In response to a Boeing review of the fuel systems for its Model 737-600, -700, -700C, -800 and -900 series airplanes, the Federal Aviation Administration will require installation of an automatic shutoff system for the center tank fuel boost pumps for all of the planes in service to prevent sparks that could ignite flammable fuel vapors, resulting in an explosion and loss of the aircraft.
